Welcome back to the Microdose U blog, my friends. I’m Dr. Dave, and I’m so glad you’re here. Today, I’m sharing something that has completely shifted my own perspective, and it’s a story I believe can truly help some of you out there who are struggling. It’s about healing—real healing—and finding the path that works for you, not just the one that’s been handed to you.
Now, this was going to be a totally different episode today, but I received an email that completely changed my course. Something about it struck a chord, and I knew I had to share it with you. So, let’s begin.
A Personal Story About Change
About one or two months ago, over in our Patreon group, one of our members shared a letter with me. He reached out for help with his mental health struggles—specifically his depression, anxiety, and social anxiety. I’m going to share his words with you, and I promise you, it’s not to put anyone on the spot. I’m sharing it because I know so many of you can relate to this kind of struggle.
Here’s what he said:
“Hi Dr. Dave, I appreciate all the work you’ve done regarding mental health. I decided to sign up for your coaching to help with my depression and anxiety. I suffer from social anxiety and depression, and it’s affecting my life. I’ve been microdosing mushrooms, and when they work, I feel amazing. My head feels clear, my anxiety is gone, and I feel present in the moment. I can read people’s emotions better. But the mushrooms just stop working. I don’t feel them anymore. I’m neurodivergent and mildly autistic. I struggle with social cues. I just want to feel better every day. I’m also struggling with ADHD. I’ve been on SSRIs, and I’m just over this mess that is my brain. I want to feel normal. I want to live my life in peace, meet my future wife, start a family. Please help me.”
His words hit me hard because, like so many others, he was struggling with a mental health condition that felt like it was never going to end. He tried microdosing mushrooms, and at first, they worked wonders, but over time, they stopped having the same effect. He was at a crossroads and was looking for a way out.
A Path Beyond Pharmaceuticals
As you can see, this man was frustrated. Like so many of us, he had tried pharmaceuticals, specifically SSRIs, and while they helped to an extent, he didn’t feel truly alive. He felt numb. And he wanted more—he wanted to live fully. He wanted to feel real emotions again, and more than anything, he wanted to feel present in his life.
I’ve been there myself, friends. I know what it’s like to feel stuck in a fog, wondering if this is all life has to offer. For years, I believed pharmaceuticals were the only way to go. I was taught that pills would fix everything—if you’re depressed, take this pill; if you’re anxious, take that pill. But as time went on, I realized something critical: these pills might mask the symptoms, but they don’t get to the root of the issue. They don’t truly heal you.
And that’s when we have to ask: Is there another way? Is there a better way to heal, not just cope?
This is where psychedelics like psilocybin (the magic in mushrooms) come into the picture. But this isn’t about tripping at a festival. This is about microdosing—taking small, intentional doses of psilocybin to help with emotional, mental, and even spiritual growth. It’s about reconnecting with yourself and with life, not about zoning out or numbing your emotions.
The First Step: Microdosing LSD
So, this member, who was struggling, decided to give something else a try—microdosing LSD. He had heard about it, read about it, and felt like it was worth exploring. But here’s the thing: microdosing LSD is a bit different from mushrooms. While psilocybin mushrooms can be forgiving with slightly higher doses, LSD requires more caution. Take a little too much, and you could end up in a full-blown trip. That’s not what we’re aiming for here.
I’ve always said that we take a very careful and intentional approach when microdosing. It’s all about being safe, being mindful, and making sure the experience is positive. I don’t guide people through psychedelic trips, but I do help them by providing the knowledge they need to do it responsibly.
A Life Transformed
Fast forward to today, and I just received an email from that same person. He told me that he is doing tremendously better. Here’s what he said:
“Hi Dr. Dave, I feel alive again. I feel so damn blessed. Feeling freaking amazing, going back to school, making major life changes. I appreciate your help.”
Friends, when I read that, my heart swelled. That’s why I do this. That’s why I share my story and the stories of others. It’s about making a difference in someone’s life. And when I hear that someone is getting their life back, that’s everything to me.
This is just one example, but it’s not the first time I’ve seen this transformation happen. I’ve worked with so many people who were told they would have to rely on pharmaceuticals forever, but with guidance and microdosing, they found their own path to healing.
What’s the Best Path for You?
Now, I’m not here to tell you that microdosing is the answer for everyone. I’m not telling you to stop your medication or abandon your current treatment plan. Please, consult your doctor before making any decisions about your health. But what I am telling you is this: if you feel like there’s more out there, like you’re missing something, then maybe it’s time to explore new possibilities. You don’t have to just cope. You can heal.
Microdosing psilocybin has completely changed my life, and it’s changed the lives of so many others. But the key is intentionality. It’s not about escaping life; it’s about embracing it. It’s about reconnecting with yourself in a way that feels real and authentic.
Taking That First Step

Tolerance and Dosage: Some Important Questions
Let’s address some quick questions from the mailbag:
Cammy asked about the long-term effects of microdosing on mental activity. Specifically, how has microdosing affected your mental activity in the long term?
- Dr. Dave responds that microdosing has had a positive impact on his cognitive function. He mentions how his brain feels sharp and alert, even at the age of 70, and credits microdosing with improving his mental clarity. Dr. Dave also shares that he has been learning Japanese, which has helped him maintain mental sharpness.
Toby Kimble asked if microdosing 0.1 to 0.2 grams could cause pupil dilation, as he doesn’t want others to think he’s using MDMA (ecstasy).
- Dr. Dave answers that at microdose levels, he has not personally experienced pupil dilation, nor has anyone else mentioned it to him. He reassures Toby that at this dose, it’s unlikely to happen, but also offers an important message: he doesn’t care what others think when it comes to his own healing. He encourages Toby to focus on his personal journey and not worry about others’ opinions.
Slime Hollow had concerns about needing to continually increase the dosage over time to achieve the same effects.
- Dr. Dave responds that tolerance can sometimes be an issue. He suggests taking a tolerance break (about a week) to reset and then returning to microdosing. He also mentions that experimenting with different doses and taking breaks is a helpful approach to managing tolerance.
