Most Common Microdosing Questions and Answers

Hey friends, Dr. Dave here! Welcome back to Microdose U. It’s been an exciting few weeks as I’ve been on a road trip across the country—about 18 or 19 days in so far—and I’ve been soaking in some new experiences, both from the road and from all of you!

I’ve gotten a lot of emails and questions from you all, and some of them are ones I know many of you might be wondering about. So, I decided to dedicate today’s episode to answering some of your most pressing questions.

As a quick reminder, nothing I’m sharing here is medical advice. I’m sharing my story and the experiences of others who have chosen to walk this path. Please always consult a professional and make sure to follow the laws in your area regarding psychedelics.

So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and let’s address some of these great questions!

  1. From Breathing Through the Static:

“I’ve been microdosing psilocybin for about three weeks now and I feel calmer, but I’m not getting those ‘aha’ moments that people talk about. Am I doing something wrong, or is it just subtle for some people?”

Breathing Through the Static, this is a fantastic question. First off, let me say three weeks is still a relatively short amount of time when it comes to microdosing. I’ve been microdosing for over four years now, and trust me, the process unfolds gradually.

You mentioned feeling calmer, which is already a big sign of progress. Sometimes the effects of microdosing aren’t as dramatic as the “aha” moments we often hear about. It can be subtle—so subtle, in fact, that the changes sneak up on you over time.

Now, I want to ask you: what’s the reason you’re microdosing? Is it for anxiety, depression, or something else? The “aha” moments are typically associated with bigger breakthroughs, but if your goal is to reduce anxiety or improve your overall mental state, you might be noticing that things are improving without those intense moments of clarity. The point of microdosing is not necessarily to have profound, life-changing moments every time but to create steady, ongoing change.

Three weeks is a great start, but don’t be discouraged if you don’t get those “aha” moments yet. Stay with it, and you may start to notice that your daily life is just a little bit easier, a little bit clearer. Trust the process, and don’t rush the journey.

  1. From Not Just Neurons:

“Do you think there’s a spiritual component to microdosing? I started for anxiety, but now I’m starting to feel like something deeper is happening. Is that normal?”

Absolutely, yes! I can personally relate to this. When I started microdosing, it was primarily to deal with anxiety and depression, and while those issues have significantly improved, I’ve noticed so much more along the way.

The spiritual aspect of microdosing is something I’ve touched on in previous episodes but let me dive deeper here. There is something about microdosing that can open up new perspectives—almost like a window to your deeper self. For me, it’s been about feeling more in tune with life, the universe, and everything around me. I’ve had moments of deep introspection that have helped me better understand not just myself but the world as a whole. It’s like peeling back layers to uncover more of the truth.

If you’re feeling something deeper, I can say from my experience that it’s completely normal. Many people report similar experiences as they continue their microdosing journey. It’s a gentle unfolding of your mind, heart, and spirit. Don’t shy away from it—embrace it, explore it. You’re on the right path.

  1. From Mystic Cyclist 57:

“I’ve heard you mention microdosing LSD too. How do you personally compare the two? What’s the vibe difference between LSD and psilocybin microdoses?”

Mystic Cyclist, this is a really interesting question! The difference between microdosing LSD and psilocybin is subtle, but it’s there. Both substances can create a shift in your mental and emotional state, but the experiences are a bit different.

When I microdose psilocybin, the effects are often shorter-lived. You’ll feel the shift, but it doesn’t necessarily carry through the entire day. LSD, on the other hand, tends to have a longer-lasting effect. When I microdose LSD, I feel the benefits pretty much all day long, and for some people, that’s a big difference. It’s a more sustained feeling of clarity and connectedness.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that with LSD, I tend to microdose less frequently—maybe once a week or so. It’s powerful, and it works well at that frequency. With psilocybin, I tend to dose a little more frequently.

I want to emphasize that these are my personal experiences. What works for me may not work the same way for everyone, and the best way to find out is through your own experience. You might need to experiment a little to see what feels right for you. But remember, both substances are incredibly safe when used intentionally and responsibly.

  1. From Quiet Tide Journey:

“Is it better to microdose alone or with other people around? Does the environment make a big difference, especially for someone just starting out?”

Great question, Quiet Tide Journey. For me, microdosing is a very personal experience, and I prefer to do it alone. I typically dose first thing in the morning, before breakfast, and then go about my day as usual. It’s not something I feel the need to do with others around. I find that the more I integrate microdosing into my everyday life, the more natural it feels.

That said, the environment can definitely play a role. If you’re just starting out, I recommend starting in a calm, safe space. If you’re doing it in nature, that’s a great way to feel connected and grounded. Some people enjoy journaling or meditating while microdosing, and those activities can really enhance the experience.

But honestly, there’s no need to be surrounded by a crowd when microdosing. It’s more about your own internal experience and how you integrate it into your day-to-day life. That’s where the real magic happens.

  1. From SOS Wooden Ships:

“Should I brush my teeth after chewing a gummy before bed? A lot of sugar gets trapped in the gum pockets.”

SOS Wooden Ships, as a retired dentist, I’m happy to answer this one! You’re absolutely right to be concerned about sugar getting trapped in your gums before bed. As a general rule, it’s always best to brush your teeth before bed to avoid plaque buildup and prevent dental issues.

If you’ve already eaten a gummy and then get into bed, it’s a good idea to brush your teeth afterward to make sure all the sugar is gone. Or, if you prefer, you can brush before you have the gummy—just make sure you’re not eating or drinking anything that will stick to your teeth afterward.

  1. From SA4Gar:

“Can I drive while microdosing one gram?”

Ah, SA4Gar, this question’s a bit tricky because one gram is not a microdose. For context, a microdose is typically between 50 and 300 milligrams (0.05g to 0.3g), and anything above that is a higher dose, which can cause you to feel a bit “off” or impaired.

One gram is a dose that could lead to noticeable effects, and driving under the influence of any substance—whether it’s a psychedelic or not—is not a good idea. You could experience altered perceptions, changes in focus, or even closed-eye visuals. You may not be in the best state to drive safely.

However, if you’re referring to magic truffles, the situation is different. Magic truffles are much weaker than mushrooms, and one gram of truffles could be considered a microdose. If you’re in Europe and using truffles, that’s a different story, but again, be very careful with any substances that affect your perception while driving.
