What Psilocybin Taught Me: Learning to Stop Giving an F

Hey there, it’s Dr. Dave. I’m really glad you’re here, reading this, listening to me, and allowing me to share my journey with you. There’s something I want to share with you today that I’ve never quite shared this way before. It’s vulnerable, that’s for sure. But I’m doing it because, maybe, just maybe, it’ll help you or someone you know feel a little bit more free, a little bit more at peace, and maybe even a little less burdened.

As we all know, life can pile on us. The expectations, the responsibilities, the worries, the constant thinking about what others think about us—it all can weigh us down. For so long, I gave an F about everything. And by everything, I mean, EVERYTHING. It wasn’t just about the big things—work, success, and achievements—but the little things, too. How I was perceived. What people thought about me. Whether I was good enough. Whether I was liked.

But something changed. And the catalyst for that change was psilocybin.

The Mindset That Held Me Back

Let me take you back for a second. My life, like so many of us, was filled with stress over things that I believed mattered. I worried about what others thought of me. I obsessed over my appearance and whether I looked good enough. I worried about my success, about being seen as the “good” person, the “successful” person. I was constantly trying to keep everyone happy – people who weren’t even in my life anymore. And if someone didn’t return a message or email? I would spiral. I would assume I did something wrong and take it personally. If someone unsubscribed from my emails, I felt crushed.

It wasn’t just social media numbers that made me feel like I wasn’t worthy. It was the cars in my driveway, the house I lived in, my age, my health, my political views, and the weight of responsibilities that weren’t really mine to carry. I gave an F about things that didn’t serve me. In fact, I gave an F about so many things that I lost sight of what truly mattered.

But then, psilocybin showed up. And with it, a lesson so powerful that it changed everything. It cracked me wide open, and for the first time in my life, I could breathe again.

The Gift of Letting Go

Let me be clear, this isn’t about becoming cold or careless. It’s not about becoming a selfish person who no longer cares for the well-being of others. That’s not the point. It’s about realizing that I was holding onto things that didn’t serve me anymore. Things I didn’t need to care about. Psilocybin didn’t make me care less—it helped me care better.

It wasn’t just about shedding all the negative thoughts and feelings; it was about releasing the pressure, the weight of the noise. It was about asking myself: Is this truly worth my energy? Is this worth my time? And for the first time, I could answer honestly.

So many of us live with the constant pressure to please others, to meet societal expectations, and to live up to some ideal that doesn’t even exist. I know I did. But psilocybin taught me to stop giving an F about those expectations and to start living for myself.

I want you to understand that it’s not about becoming numb to the world or not caring about anything at all. It’s about prioritizing what truly matters. It’s about clearing the clutter and finding clarity. It’s about creating space for the things that bring you peace, joy, and fulfillment.

My Journey with Psilocybin

When I first started microdosing, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t know if it would work or if it would just be another tool that didn’t quite live up to the hype. But over time, I began to notice shifts in my thinking, my perspective, and my outlook on life.

Here’s the truth: psilocybin didn’t just help me feel better mentally and emotionally. It helped me feel more alive. I felt more present. I felt more connected to the world around me, to nature, to the people I love, and most importantly, to myself. I stopped running from who I was supposed to be and started embracing who I actually am.

The more I microdosed, the clearer my mind became. The brain fog that had once been a constant companion disappeared. The mental chatter that used to spin in endless circles? It quieted down. And in that quiet, I found my true self. Not the self that was trying to please everyone, not the self that was constantly fighting for validation—but the self that had always been there, just waiting to be uncovered.

Why I’m Sharing This

I’m sharing this because I know there are so many of you out there, just like me, who are carrying around too much. Too many worries, too many expectations, and too many fears. And I want you to know that it doesn’t have to be this way. I want you to know that there is a way to stop carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.

This podcast, “What Really Happened to My Brain From Psilocybin?” dives deeper into what I experienced as I microdosed with psilocybin over the past few years. It’s not about giving advice or making promises. It’s about sharing what has worked for me, what has changed for me, and why I believe in this practice so deeply.

What did psilocybin do for my brain? Well, it didn’t just make me feel better—it reworked how I think, how I perceive the world, and how I show up in it. And that’s why I’m so passionate about sharing it with you. I’m not here to tell you that microdosing will fix all of your problems, but I am here to tell you that it can be a powerful tool in your journey toward healing and self-discovery.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is this: I no longer give an F about things that don’t serve me. I don’t care about keeping up with societal expectations. I don’t care about what others think of me. And most importantly, I don’t care about holding onto things that are keeping me from feeling truly alive.

Instead, I give an F about peace. I give an F about my health—my mind, my body, and my spirit. I give an F about being present in the moment and savoring the beauty of life. I give an F about laughter, love, and connection. I give an F about nature, about breath, and about stillness. I give an F about showing up as my true self, not just for others, but for me.

Psilocybin helped me get here. It helped me strip away the layers of fear and noise that were preventing me from seeing what really mattered. It’s not a magic cure, but it’s a tool—a powerful one—that has changed the way I approach my life and my well-being.
