Microdosing Q & A Plus Five Recommendations For You!

Welcome back and thank you for being an active part of this amazing community that IS so amazing because YOU are here!

In this week’s podcast, I’ve got something really special that I know could make a significant difference in your life. These are five products that have truly changed my life, and I’m betting they’ll make a difference for you too.

I want to clarify that this isn’t medical advice, just my personal experience with these products that I’ve used and tested over the years. They’ve helped me in ways I didn’t think were possible, and I believe they could be a powerful addition to your wellness routine. Three of these are supplements, and two are lifestyle tools that have helped me stay grounded and focused.

I’ll share the details with you right here:

1. Lion’s Mane Capsules

First up is one of my absolute favorite supplements: Lion’s Mane. This mushroom is a natural powerhouse for cognitive health, and I’ve been using it for at least four years now. It’s a supplement that promotes brain function, mental clarity, and focus.

As I’ve gotten older (I just turned 70!), I’ve noticed how crucial it is to keep my brain sharp. I’m learning Japanese right now (which is not easy!) and have found that Lion’s Mane has helped me stay focused and retain information better than I expected. I take Lion’s Mane capsules regularly, and I can honestly say they’ve made a huge difference in my cognitive health. My memory is just as strong as it was in my youth, and I feel more mentally present every day.

Lion’s Mane isn’t just for aging brains. Whether you’re trying to improve your focus, stave off mental fog, or enhance your learning ability, I truly believe it’s a game-changer.

Here are the exact ones I use: Lion’s Mane capsules

2. MSM Capsules

Next, we’ve got MSM capsules. MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is another supplement that’s made a world of difference for me. It’s known for supporting joint health, reducing inflammation, and improving skin, hair, and nails. As someone who’s had my fair share of aches and pains, I’ve found MSM to be incredibly helpful, especially in maintaining flexibility and supporting my joints.

When I started taking MSM, I noticed a reduction in joint discomfort, and my skin and hair looked better, too. It’s also great for post-exercise recovery. If you’re looking to improve your overall flexibility, reduce inflammation, or just feel a little bit more comfortable in your own body, MSM is a great option.

3. Turmeric Capsules

Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory powerhouse, and it’s one of my go-to supplements. Whether you’re dealing with joint pain, inflammation, or just want to support your overall health, turmeric is amazing. I’ve been taking turmeric capsules for a while now, and I’ve noticed significant improvement in joint comfort and mobility.

Turmeric is also packed with antioxidants, which are great for overall health. Beyond just physical benefits, turmeric helps support healthy digestion and can even support a strong immune system. For me, it’s a no-brainer to have it in my daily routine.

4. The Power of Journaling: A Quality Pen

Now let’s talk about something a little different: journaling. I’ve been journaling for decades, and I can’t even begin to tell you how much it’s helped me process emotions, track my progress, and reflect on my life. But journaling isn’t just about writing. It’s about how you write.

I use a high-quality fountain pen, specifically my Diplomat fountain pen, paired with a beautiful journal (I’ve got a Paisley journal that I absolutely love). I know it sounds a little extravagant, but trust me, when you combine a good-quality pen with a quality journal, the whole experience feels different. Writing becomes more meaningful, and you’re able to put your thoughts down in a way that’s special.

I truly believe the quality of the pen and journal you use can enhance your ability to connect with yourself through writing. If you’re looking for something to add to your self-care routine, journaling with a high-quality pen and journal is an easy and fulfilling way to start.

Here’s the pen I use and recommend: Diplomat Fountain Pen

5. A Special Journal for Reflection

Along with the fountain pen, I can’t recommend enough the importance of keeping a journal where you can process your thoughts. Writing is a form of self-reflection, and it’s something I rely on every day. Whether I’m processing a particularly challenging moment or jotting down goals for the future, journaling helps me stay grounded.

I know that life can feel overwhelming sometimes, but when you take a moment each day to write down what’s on your mind, it can bring you peace and clarity. Writing down your thoughts, worries, and hopes for the future can help you feel more in control. I’d encourage you to try it out—just spend 10 minutes every morning or night writing about what’s going on in your life.

I’ll be sharing the exact journal I use in the show notes, but any journal that feels special to you will do the trick. It’s not about the product—it’s about the ritual.

Final Thoughts

These five products and lifestyle tools have made a world of difference for me in my journey toward better health. I’m sharing them with you because I truly believe they can support your mental, physical, and emotional well-being, just as they’ve supported mine.

Whether it’s the cognitive benefits of Lion’s Mane, the joint health support from MSM and turmeric, or the emotional clarity from journaling, these products offer a natural, holistic approach to feeling better every day. Of course, everyone’s body is different, so it’s important to listen to your own needs, but I think there’s a really good chance these will make a positive impact on your life.

If you want to learn more about these products or try them out for yourself, check the show notes for links to the exact ones I use. No pressure, but if you’re interested, it’s there for you.

Now, Let’s Get Into Your Questions

I want to take a moment to address some of the great questions you’ve sent in. I’m always so grateful for your participation, and I do my best to answer as many as possible. These questions are what keep the show going and help me know what’s on your mind.

1. Question from Johnny Keith081:

“Do you believe microdosing will help me with depression and anxiety? I suffered a stroke when I was 37 and have had open-heart surgery. I smoke a lot of cannabis and have a lot of sadness in my life. Will microdosing make me feel better, or is this something I have to continuously do?”

Answer:

Dr. Dave expresses sympathy for Johnny’s health struggles and emphasizes that microdosing can indeed help with depression and anxiety. He notes that many people, even those who were previously on antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications, have found relief by microdosing. Dr. Dave also mentions that while the initial transformation may be profound, ongoing microdosing might be needed for long-term mental well-being. He encourages Johnny to avoid smoking combustible cannabis, as it could impact his heart and lung health, and instead recommends trying edibles. Dr. Dave continues by explaining how he still microdoses occasionally for maintenance, even after experiencing significant healing from microdosing.

2. Question from Menahill187:

“Is microdosing addictive? Do I have to take it for the rest of my life for the benefits, or will the benefits persist even after quitting?”

Answer:

Dr. Dave assures Menahill that microdosing is not addictive and that it’s very safe. He compares it to hard drugs like cocaine or opioids and emphasizes that microdosing psychedelics is far safer. He explains that, in his experience, microdosing has had lasting benefits, but there is no need to microdose forever. Dr. Dave personally continues to microdose for maintenance, but he acknowledges that everyone’s experience might be different. He encourages Menahill to follow what works best for their personal needs.

3. Question from Jake in the Mountains:

“I keep hearing about people microdosing for focus, but I get anxious sometimes. Could microdosing actually make my anxiety worse?”

Answer:

Dr. Dave addresses Jake’s concern by noting that normally, microdosing doesn’t worsen anxiety, but in some rare cases, people experience increased anxiety with very low doses. Dr. Dave suggests that if Jake is experiencing anxiety, it’s likely because his dose is too low (around 50 milligrams). He recommends increasing the dose slightly (to around 100–150 milligrams) within the microdosing range, which often resolves the anxiety. Dr. Dave assures Jake that microdosing, when done properly, is generally safe and effective.

4. Question from Healthy Chris:

“I’m thinking of starting microdosing but I’m confused about what days to take it and what days to skip. Can you break down what a solid schedule looks like?”

Answer:

Dr. Dave explains that when he first started recommending microdosing schedules, he was very rigid, but over time, he’s found that flexibility works best for most people. He recommends taking microdoses for a few days, anywhere from 3 to 5 days, followed by a day or two off. This pattern doesn’t have to be strict; the goal is consistency, not rigidity. Dr. Dave adds that if someone wants more personalized advice, one-on-one coaching can be a great resource to tailor a schedule based on their needs and responses.

5. Question from Zenzhen for Real:

“I’ve been microdosing for a couple of weeks but I’m still drinking a lot and smoking weed. Is that messing up the process? Should I try to cut back on all that other stuff?”

Answer:

Dr. Dave advises Zenzhen to stop smoking cannabis as it can damage the lungs, especially with health conditions like a past stroke or heart issues. He mentions that smoking, whether combustible or in vape form, can negatively affect heart health and complicate the healing process. While Dr. Dave acknowledges that cannabis edibles are a safer option, he recommends cutting back on alcohol as well, explaining that it doesn’t contribute positively to mental health. He emphasizes that focusing on microdosing and lifestyle changes, such as meditation, journaling, and yoga, will provide better long-term benefits.

As always, I want to remind you that I’m here for you. If you’re looking for one-on-one coaching or more personalized guidance, I’ve got a fantastic coaching program available. It’s not medical advice, but it’s designed to help you make sense of your journey and get the results you want.
