They Laughed When I Took Magic Mushrooms – Now They’re Asking Me For Advice!
Hey, friends! Dr. Dave here—thank you for joining me once again on this journey of healing and personal growth. I want to share a story that has been brewing in my mind for a while now, and it might resonate with many of you.
When I first started microdosing magic mushrooms, I knew I was treading new waters. There was excitement, a sense of curiosity, and a desire to find healing in ways that felt more aligned with who I truly am. But there was also a lot of skepticism—especially from the people around me. To say I got some strange looks would be an understatement. I mean, people laughed at me. They asked, “What are you doing? Are you crazy?” and “What happened to you, Dave?” But here’s the thing: I wasn’t crazy. I was searching for something real.
The First Reactions: Doubt and Disbelief
It’s funny how quickly people can jump to conclusions when you’re doing something they don’t understand. When I went to my doctor’s office and filled out the form, I checked the box that said “recreational drugs” because there was no other category for what I was doing. I was open about it, as always, and explained that I was microdosing magic mushrooms for my mental health. The doctor, a person who had seen me through various health challenges, raised an eyebrow and said, “Why? These are psychedelics.”
I’ll admit, her tone suggested concern. But what I was experiencing wasn’t a trip, wasn’t an escape. It was a microdose—a small amount that wasn’t designed to alter my state of mind in any extreme way. I told her, “Well, yes, it’s psilocybin, but it’s just a tiny, controlled dose. And I feel amazing.” She had no idea how to respond to that.
But the most memorable reaction was from a good friend who, when I posted on Facebook about trying microdosing, sent me a message with an angry emoji. She was upset, asking, “What are you doing? You’re screwing up your life.” This wasn’t just a casual comment. This was the kind of response that made me second guess myself for a split second. But as I stood my ground, I started to realize that I was doing something very few people were even considering at the time. People were judgmental, and I understood why. Psilocybin was, and still is, illegal in most places. Meanwhile, alcohol—a substance that’s widely accepted and legal—wasn’t questioned, despite being a far more destructive force in society.
But I wasn’t looking for approval. I was looking for healing. And at that time, I needed something that alcohol, antidepressants, or the “conventional” paths couldn’t provide.
The Shift: From Skepticism to Curiosity
Now, let’s fast-forward four years. Things have changed. No, I’m not a different person in a dramatic sense, but I am a much better version of myself. My life is better, my relationships are better, and most importantly, my mental health has drastically improved.
And, here’s the kicker: Those same people who laughed at me, who criticized me for “losing my mind,” are now the ones reaching out to me. They’re asking for advice. “Hey, Dr. Dave, tell me about microdosing. I want to try it.” The very people who made me feel like I was doing something reckless are now secretly coming to me because they see the profound changes in my life.
This shift didn’t happen overnight. The process of getting people to change their minds or to be open to something new takes time. But it’s rewarding to see that the skepticism has turned into curiosity. Now, people are acknowledging the reality of the benefits I’ve experienced—and they want to know how to get on the same path.
How Microdosing Magic Mushrooms Changed My Life
I didn’t know what to expect when I first started microdosing. I wasn’t sure it would work. But I was desperate to try something different. I was suffering from anxiety and depression, and I was tired of the band-aid solutions I was getting from doctors who didn’t know how to help me in a meaningful, lasting way.
I was on Lexapro at the time, and while it may have “helped” a little, it wasn’t doing the trick. I wasn’t feeling better—I was feeling numb. I didn’t want to live my life in a fog. I wanted to feel alive again, to connect with myself and the world in a way that felt real.
That’s when I turned to microdosing.
The first few weeks were transformative. And I mean that. My mind cleared, my anxiety lessened, and for the first time in a long while, I felt something—something good. The longer I continued, the more I noticed my brain rewiring. It was as if the fog lifted, and I could see life more clearly.
But it wasn’t just about the mental health benefits. The emotional growth, the spiritual awareness, and the clarity I’ve experienced are things I can’t even fully put into words. You know that feeling when everything just starts to make sense? That’s what I started to experience. Life had texture again. It felt alive, full of potential, and I was engaged with it in a way that felt fresh and new.
A Lesson in Healing and Patience
I want to be clear: this isn’t an overnight fix. If you’re considering microdosing or even if you’re on the journey already, know that the benefits might not always hit you right away. It’s easy to think it’s a quick fix, but real healing takes time. Sometimes, the biggest changes come in subtle ways.
That’s what’s been happening in my life. It hasn’t been a magical transformation, but it’s been real. Four years in, I can say with confidence that microdosing has improved my life—dramatically.
But what I’ve also learned along the way is this: it’s not just about taking magic mushrooms. It’s about intentionally connecting with yourself. It’s about getting quiet and doing the deep work that goes beyond just popping a pill or taking a gummy. It’s a commitment to change, and it involves more than just microdosing. It involves getting honest with yourself and opening up to healing in every area of your life.
A Path You Can Take Too
As I share my journey, I’m not just talking about my experiences. I’m hoping to open the door for others to walk through it. If you’re suffering from mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, or even trauma, I want you to know that you are not alone. Healing is possible. And sometimes, the road less traveled might just be the one that gets you to where you need to be.
I didn’t expect that this journey would lead to me helping so many others, but here we are. Now, I’m honored to have the opportunity to offer guidance, share what I’ve learned, and walk alongside others who are ready for change.
To everyone who doubted me, who questioned my choices, I just want to say: I get it. I was once skeptical too. But today, I’m living proof that alternative approaches can work—if you’re willing to give them a chance.
And if you’re curious about where to start, I’d love to help you out. I offer one-on-one coaching, and if you’re looking for something more personal and hands-on, my Patreon community is growing and thriving with individuals who are walking this path with me.
