Very Special Microdosing Episode – Never Done Before
This week’s podcast is unlike any other I’ve recorded. I’ve shared my journey with microdosing before, but in this episode, I decided to do something different: completely unrehearsed, unedited, and from the heart. I answer questions from followers, reflect on my personal experience with psilocybin, and share the lessons I’ve learned over four and a half years of microdosing. It’s intimate, it’s unfiltered, and I hope it gives you a window into both my personal journey and the broader Microdose U community.
I remember the moment I realized Microdose U had to exist. When I first started microdosing psilocybin, I felt a transformation almost immediately. I had been struggling with anxiety and depression and had been on an SSRI, Lexapro, at one point taking up to 20 milligrams. But the medicine—the psilocybin—helped me in a way I had never experienced before. It gave me clarity, calm, and hope. I knew I couldn’t keep this secret. If it was helping me, why not share it with others? That realization became the foundation for Microdose U, and over the years, it has grown into a community I’m deeply grateful for—a family of people committed to learning, growing, and supporting each other.
The evolution of my personal relationship with psilocybin has been fascinating. Microdosing has become more than just a tool for mental health; it’s part of a lifestyle. It informs my journaling, my creativity, and how I think about the content I create for this podcast. I carry my journal with me everywhere, capturing insights and reflections. My goal isn’t just to share information but to provide guidance that genuinely helps people live better lives. I’m constantly reflecting on how to make each episode meaningful, whether it’s answering a question, sharing a personal story, or exploring a new concept.
One of the most common questions I get is whether there was ever a time I considered stopping the podcast. And the answer is yes. There were moments when I wondered if I had anything new to share or if the content was resonating. But every time, I realized there is always something new—whether it’s a shift in my own microdosing journey, insights from my followers, or emerging research. The opportunity to connect with others, to help someone feel better, and to share a meaningful experience keeps me coming back.
Microdosing has also transformed how I interact with others. It has made me a kinder, more patient person. I used to judge more quickly, offer my opinion too sharply, or expect others to navigate life the same way I did. The medicine has taught me to listen more, to empathize, and to approach people with compassion. I’ve learned that everyone has their own struggles, and my role isn’t to fix them but to offer support, understanding, and guidance where I can. This perspective has shaped not just my life but also the ethos of Microdose U.
The community aspect of Microdose U is incredibly important. Patreon has allowed us to cultivate a smaller, more intimate space where members can share, support, and learn from each other. We’re talking about microdosing, yes, but also about journaling, integration, mental health, spirituality, and even specialized topics like athletic performance or exploring microdosing within the context of faith. The community is a judgment-free zone, a place where people can feel safe to ask questions, share experiences, and grow together. The love and support in that space are palpable and unlike anything I’ve seen in other psychedelic communities. It’s not just about sharing scientific facts—it’s about caring for each other, helping each other thrive, and celebrating progress together.
A big part of the learning process for me has been the questions you, my listeners, send in. Some are practical, like dosage questions or how to get started with microdosing. Others are reflective, like how microdosing has changed me or whether it’s possible to feel too much sadness on certain days. Answering these questions in real time, without scripts or editing, brings a level of honesty and authenticity that I hope resonates with you. One lesson I share repeatedly is that progress can be subtle, and it’s important to celebrate good days whenever they come, even if they feel ordinary. Over time, these days accumulate, and you realize that microdosing has shifted your baseline for mental health and wellbeing.
One question I particularly love is whether microdosing changes who we are or just helps us uncover who we already are. For me, it has enhanced my existing qualities. I am still me, but a better version—a calmer, kinder, more aware version. It has helped me better understand my physical, mental, and spiritual health, and it has given me tools to continue improving in all areas of life. Even after years of microdosing, I find myself learning new lessons about myself, my body, and my mind every day. The process is ongoing, and the insights keep evolving.
Microdosing isn’t a short-term fix. It’s a long-term companion. I’ve experienced periods of intense learning and growth, from addressing anxiety and depression to exploring my spirituality and physical health. Each year brings new insights, new challenges, and new opportunities to apply what I’ve learned. Microdosing has given me the ability to feel younger and healthier in many ways, despite age and physical wear, though some areas, like my knees, still require attention. The key takeaway is that microdosing can be a sustainable, lifelong practice that complements a commitment to overall wellbeing.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been hearing from listeners who have been positively impacted. Messages from people who say that this podcast or the Microdose U community has changed their lives are profoundly moving. These moments underscore why I do this work—not for money, not for statistics, but for the impact on real human lives. Success for me isn’t measured in downloads or financial gain; it’s measured by lives touched, minds eased, and hope restored.
I’ve also learned important lessons about boundaries and authenticity. I’ve faced moments where people tried to pressure me to take sides politically or to align with their personal beliefs. I’ve learned not to give in to bullies, but instead to maintain integrity, and to focus on what truly matters: helping people improve their lives. The community here is diverse, and that diversity is a strength. We’re all united by a shared desire to feel good, be kind, and support one another.
This week’s episode also dives into how the podcast itself has evolved. Normally, I plan episodes loosely and answer questions spontaneously, but in this episode, I went fully off-script. The result is an intimate, conversational experience where you get to see me reflect honestly, share mistakes, celebrate progress, and reveal personal insights. It’s the kind of episode that feels like sitting down for a cup of tea together, talking openly about the ups and downs of this journey.
Ultimately, Microdose U is about love. Love for the community, love for learning, love for growth, and love for the process itself. Every episode, every reflection, and every interaction is rooted in the intention to help, support, and uplift. As I always say at the end of the show: I love you. It’s not a phrase I use flippantly. It’s a promise that you have a place here, a community that cares, and a shared space to explore, learn, and grow together.
In this very special episode, you’ll find me discussing my personal history with microdosing, how my mindset and health have evolved, and how the community we’ve built continues to teach me as much as I hope I teach it. We talk about authenticity, maintaining integrity in the face of pressure, and the small but meaningful ways microdosing can shift your life. The episode is long, but every minute is full of reflection, guidance, and heartfelt insight. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to experience microdosing from the perspective of someone who has been on this journey for years, this episode is a perfect starting point—or a wonderful companion for your ongoing practice.
For those interested in exploring further, the podcast and the show notes include links to the Patreon community, one-on-one coaching, and other resources. But the heart of this episode—and of Microdose U itself—is the shared human experience: the triumphs, the setbacks, the learning, and the love. It’s about growing together, celebrating every small step, and using microdosing as a tool for lifelong learning and improvement.
This episode is a reminder that microdosing is a journey. And on that journey, there is room for curiosity, reflection, love, and support. Whether you’re just beginning or have been on this path for years, there’s something here for you. I hope this week’s podcast inspires you to reflect, engage with your own journey, and remember that you’re part of a larger community committed to growth, kindness, and meaningful living. Now, go take a listen!
Much love,
Dr. Dave
